Hello, I'm wondering how do I get my Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem to work with a PPPoE only ISP?

I installed the modem and can make a PPPoE connection in XP but it only has a USB plug on it so how does that work?

Do I need to buy a new modem?

Thank you very much

Can't see what the problem is. You have installed the modem, made a PPPoE connection, then thats it. You should be able to connect to the Internet.

I'm under the impression PPPoE means I need a modem that plugs into my Ethernet card (NIC)?

This modem will only plug into USB but it says PPPoE supported on the side of the box?

PPPoE is a protocol for making a connection.

No relevance whatsoever to wether you have a USB or Ethernet Modem......what books have you been reading ??

Whatever you have been reading, you have misunderstood it.

I connect via PPPoATM but I don't have an ATM network card in my computer. Just an Ethernet NIC. I have also connected a USB modem with PPPoATM. Its all done in software. The relevant hardware is in the in the telephone companies main office/exchange.

StuartS,

PPPoE is different than PPPoA.

Herbieharry,

Have you contacted your ISP for assistance yet? You might also want to check out: http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/product...

>> PPPoE is different than PPPoA. <<

I know thay are. I was pointing out that the connection protocol to your ISP has little to do with the hardware in your computer.
