I'm reformatting an old computer and giving it to a friend. Right now she has her one computer connected to the internet via a Speedstream 5100 dsl modem. My question is, if I provide her with a Linksys wireless router and a Linksys wireless adapter, will she be able to connect those devices and get a working network?
I've only ever used cable internet, so I know nothing about dsl devices. Thanks!

The Speedstream 5100 is an older DSL modem, but works well...It requires a CD installation on the computer so that you can set up your DSL account...After that is set up, then you can put a Linksys in the system, then go wireless...
1. Hook the Speedstream to the computer with a Cat5...
2. Use the DSL cd to install the software...if you don;t have a CD, contact your DSL supplier...
3. Go thru the install steps indicated on the CD...create an account, that is the email address that you want to use...and pw...
4. After you are on the Inet with the DSL modem, then you can connect the Linksys...
5. Plug the DSL modem into the WAN port of the Linksys, and the cord from the computer into any of the numbered ports on the Linksys...
6. Get into the Linksys by starting IE and putting 192.168.0.1 into the URL...(note, the IP address might be 192.168.1.1) a login screen will open up, there is NO user name and the pw is admin ...
7. Go to the setup page, and choose PPPoE...put in the account name, which is the email address you chose above, and the pw...
8. At this point you should be able to get on the Inet with the router running...
9. Turn on the wireless and check it out...Hope this helps...
Steve
