Increase Transfer Rates with ICS and Broadband Connections (Windows 98) New
Category: Performance > Network & Internet
If you are using Internet Connection Sharing ("ICS") with a broadband connection then remove this key to increase the performance.Open your registry and find the key below.
Delete the value named "InternetMTU" and restart Windows for the change to take effect.
Note: This will only increase the internal performance with a broadband Internet connection (i.e. Cable or DSL). Do not use this tweak with modem connections.
Settings
Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\
ICSharing\Settings\General]
Value Name: InternetMTUhttp://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/911/
is this true?
Thanks,
Andy

I have a satellite connection via Direcpc. It's a two system that does'nt use a dailup modem. I've removed the file InternetMTU from the pc that has the direct connection. I ran all 7 of the 1Mb text test from toast.net and the average speed was 914.285Kb on the other pc using ICS the average speed is 52.50Kb, about that of a 56k modem. Any other sugeations on how to speed up the second pc's speed?

I've got the same problem with DirecPC. My system is running Win2K Server and my speed to the gateway machine is +/-1Mb/sec and my speed on the inside is between 50 and 77kb/sec.
My system shows no CPU or memory load and very little activity otherwise (on the internal network).
I'm told that there are other systems successfully running ICS at full speed, but I have yet to see it.
If anyone has additional information, I'd love to hear it.

Well, after some work last night using DrTCP from http://www.dslreport.com I finally got some decent speed improvements on my 'client' machine.
Basically you have to use the DrTCP to 'hard code' some of the TCP settings and then have the client machine configured with the EXACT same settings.
While I don't have 400K/sec on my client I went from 77K to 200K by making these changes.
Hope this helps,
Andrew
