Hi, all

I am in doubt if a dual-core xeon (that without polling enabled) is better than a single core with polling enabled for high networking traffic, as 500 Mbps up and 500 Mbps down, plus NAT at about 50-60 Mbps.

Any ideas?
Thanks.
Alex.

Question you need to ask is; is what you are you using the machine for: cpu or subsystem intensive. Networking per say is not cpu intensive but subsystem/nic intensive. Now if you do software load balancing then that is a cpu intensive operation. Next question, under those circumstances, would be is the software application written to take advantage of SMP or Hyperthreading. If not more cpu won't effect operations either way.

Since newer 64bit boards are also set to run dual core you would be ahead of the game with dual core.

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.
