Subject: Sp2 NETWORK ISSUES?OS: XP SP2 / Windows 2003 SerCPU/Ram: 2Ghz 1 gig |
Comment: Hello, I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I have an application which is client/server, the client connects to an apache tomcat server. The clients IP address is 172.16.195.9 and server is 172.16.195.10. Both machines have their firewalls turned off. I can ping the client from the server and vice versa. When i then start up the client side of application it starts fine and connects ok, BUT when i think click a button which receives informatin from the server (via SOAP messages) the application hangs. I thought this might be to do with the limited amount of connections that XP SP2 introduced so i downloaded a tool which up'd the limit to 50 but that did not work. The strange thing is if i remove SP2 the client has no issue when receiving the SOAP messages from the server which points to an issue which must be caused by SP2. Stranger still is that i have now tried this in a completely different network and the client can ALWAYS receive messages from the server regardles of whethere SP2 is installed or not. I should mention that the first network (which doesnt work with SP2 installed) is a VLAN but i as you can see from the IP address i mentioned that are both on the same subnet and can communicate with each other. Can anyone see anything i might be overlooking, Many thanks, Adam Adam Smith

Reply: (edit)Not really I'm afraid. A VLAN won't make a difference, or shouldn't, to this situation. I can see SP2 making a difference if it encompassed a change to something affecting the application or the db. If it were me, I'd start over again on the first network. Remove the db and the client from their respective computers and reinstall and then test.
