Specs: Windows XP
I have bought an LCD monitor from a boot sale, the only problem is that the monitor cable will not marry up to the connection on the computer base unit. I have been told that this may be because it is for security reasons - ie to stop people stealing them from their work place - and that the type of connector is usually associated with a network can anyone clarify this for me. basic description is in the shape of a raised "T" with 36 connections on the centre spine

Most LCD monitors have two connectors on them. The regular analog and the digital.

I see that Dell now makes a proprietary connector that precludes one from using any monitor but a Dell branded monitor unless you have an adapter. I wouldn't be surprised at all of other companies are doing this.

I would first check your monitor for the analog/digital connectors and if it doesn't have one, get on Sony's website and contact their support people via email. Ask them about the connector for your make/model LCD monitor.

Thanks, have contacted Sony, but seem to be getting the run
around - been passed to several other phone numbers.
Like I said, i believe that this is a network monitor as there are
connections on the base for a keyboard, mouse and USB.

Will continue to seek other answers, yours were helpful,

Open to any other solution/information!!

Have you googled the make/model for it's specifications? If not, do so. You should be able to find a spec sheet somewhere listing what it is, and what it's capable of.
