I have a problem: This morning I went to my ThinkPad to check my Yahoo!-based email. it wouldn't load. in fact, nothing yahoo related will load. Nor will http://osbetaarchive.com load. I am using Firefox 1.5.0.6. the web sites that i have found that do load are:
google.com or anything Google related
coolrom.com
computing.netother sites that don't load:
romnation.netcould somebody try these sites on their computer?
Thanks,
dodger

The thing is, is that these sites loaded yesterday just fine. Yahoo! seems to work now, but ROMNation.Net dosn't. i will try on another computer on my network to see if my ThinkPad is to blame. dodger

Are you on your home LAN when this happens? Are you using a SOHO router? Believe it or not, when I used to use Linksys SOHO routers, there would be some points in time when zero of the clients on the LAN (about 30 of them) could not get to a certain individual website. I believe it was giganews.com. I sniffed traffic and used nslookup to make sure that the name servers that were configured were properly resolving the DNS. They were, and I could ping the website, but I could not get any of the browsers to load the site.
A simple soft reboot of the router fixed the problem. I never really got into analyzing the traffic to see exactly where the downloading of the page was failing, but its almost like my router was not routing packets out the WAN when it received a packet with a destination IP of the giganews.com webserver. When the router received that packet it would have matched the "default route" in the router, but for some odd reason it would not route.
Just some food for thought. Try rebooting the router/DSL Modem/Cable Modem, and also try deleting your Temp Internet Cache, Cookies, and History.

thanks for posting that Smitty. these kind of strange errors elude all the training and it's nice to draw on other people's experience!
