Subject: Some Sites Blocked on XP Network?
OS: XP
CPU/Ram: AMD 256
Comment:

I have cable internet service with a small home network. Here is the problem:
I have XP pro running on a desktop as the main computer and my XP Home laptop hooked up to the network on a hub (2 nic cards in the desktop). My desktop can browse to any site normally. My laptop for some reason while plugged into the network can't browse to all sites (www.yahoo.com,www.msn.com,www.espn.com,www.gameville.com etc) but has no problem going to many sites. Before you jump to the possiblity that I have to high a security setting on my laptop I don't, I tested this by just using my dialup modem from my laptop where I was able to browse to any site normally. So it's not the laptop, it has to be the network.
I don't have the windows firewall turned on on my desktop or laptop, nor do I have any blocking of cookies or ads or sites in any way on either.
What in the world is going on? Why would this be happening?
(the error i get browsing to these sites on the laptop is just a timing out of the site but I can actually do a remote connection to my desktop from my laptop and browse to the sites fine via the desktop! What the?)
Thanks in advance!

Sounds like the IP on the maching with 2 NIC's is 192.168.xxx.xxx and the client is 192.16x.xxx.xxx. Make sure both machines are in the same range.

How do I make sure they are in the same range? What do I do?

On each machine right click on my network places, properties. Right click on LAN, properties. Internet TCP/IP, properties. Make a note of the IP address on each machine.

Make the PC with the modem 192.168.0.1 and teh client 192.168.0.10.

Hm, no..removing DHCP from my host computer made me lose the internet all together. My IP address wasn't 192... on that one, it was a 12... assigned by @home. My laptop was assigned however 192.168.0.1
What should I do now?
