In one of my other posts, i stated that the network adapter in my computer was always disabled when the computer started. I removed this card and installed a new one (fast ethernet controller provider: pci 10/100 fast ethernet adapter, or something of that sort)
and all the drivers are installed. I used to get a "fatal error" message when i ran winipcfg.exe, but that doesn't come up anymore. I think the problem resides in the fact that the driver is not specified in config.sys and/or autoexec.bat. I added the following line to the config.sys file:

DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\FASTNIC.SYS (network adapter driver file),

but that didn't seem to work. every time i started the computer after that it would freeze at the logo screen. I'm not sure if it has to be specified in autoexec too or just autoexec, but it might also be the wrong syntax, but i kind of doubt that.

somebody please help

Does the card have a 95 driver? I think your issue is trying to install hardware on a OS that doesn't support it.

In Windows 9x the card is loaded in system.ini not config or autoexec [if I recall correctly since it has been a few years]

You can't use the card if there are not 95 drivers. You may find a "compatable" driver in 95. Talk to the nic cards support folks

Golly gee wilerkers everyone. Learn to Internet Search
