I got this error from my smtp server

Message sender was <>.

Basically the problem is that we cannot send mail from our domain to one of our email addresses using a mailing program we developed. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds like the program isn't issuing the MAIL FROM: <address> command to the SMTP server.

That has a list of SMTP commands, I think those commands are specific to the sendmail server. With sendmail, you have to first identify the MAIL FROM: address before you can proceed with anything else. If you try to start the DATA portion (actual body) of the e-mail before indicating the MAIL FROM:, sendmail reports back 503 No sender.

Maybe this is what is happening to you?
