Ok here's the problem... I purchased a SMC2802W wireless PCI NIC... i used it on my old win 98 pc for a while and it worked fine with the drivers and utility that came with it... recently i upgraded and decided to move this network card into my win xp pro machine and installed it again using the same cd (drivers and utility) that came with it... everything worked fine... BUT.. when i turn off the computer or restart it, the NIC doesn't connect to my wireless network... instead i have to choose to repair the connection and then it connects, assigns an ip, and works... this is a pain... i want it to just connect to my wireless network automatically at startup... if anyone knows why this may be happening or how i can fix this problem your help will be much appreciated...
Thanks,

Here are a couple of things to try. I would perform each step, reboot and see if your problem has gone away before moving to the next suggestion:
1. Download the latest XP drivers from SMC.
2. Download lastest firmware from SMC.
3. Move the PCI card to another slot. One or all of the above should fic the problem.

Thanks for your help Paul... i've tried the first 2 you suggested and still the same result... i'll try moving the card to another pci slot and see what happens.

Hey i actually got it to work a different way... i started using window's Wireless Zero Configuration... i disabled my SMC wireless utility and i'm letting windows manage my wireless network... starts up every time detecting the network and auto connects... problem solved... the problem actually had to do with windows sp2, i found how to fix it here... http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;871122
