I recently purchased a new SMC wireless broadband router. Model# SMC2804WBRP-G, Product# 751.7878.
I have a requirement to be able to block AOL's Instant Messenger after 22:00. I set the Access Control and System rules pages accordingly. The config I set is supposed to block ALL ports both TCP and UDP. I tried these same settings both with
and without the AIM, Disable Instant Messenger, Block Port 5190 option
checked on the Access Control page. In either case LOGIN access to AIM
seems to be blocked. However, if a user on my network is already using AIM when the filter goes into effect at 22:00 it does NOT block them and disable the connection. They are able to continue chatting indefinitely. I would not consider this behavior by the router normal. It sounds to me like the
router works normally to block NEW connections from being established but it
is not scanning the in-use ports and disabling them when the filter time
starts. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I think you are going to have to use a proxy server and a tool like Port Lock (http://www.protect-me.com/pl/). Even there you would have to confirm that it'll block an in-progess connection (I never tried with ours) although I don't see why it wouldn't.
