I cant connect to the internet with my smc2804wbr router. I contacted my isp and they said they can see the router but it isn't accepting an ip address, it is on a "discover offer loop". i contacted smc previuosly and they said i have to assign a static ip to the computer. do i assign the ip address to my "Local Area Connection" or to my " Wireless network connection". My isp says i leave it on "obtain ip address".
I connected the router on a different pc a cable running from dsl modem to router then cable going from port 1 to pc and was able to get on the network. i tried this on my pc and doesn't work. There must be a setting on my pc that isn't set right. i have my xp firewall disabled.

Thanks in Advance
Steve

your router should be spooling it out to your PC, so no need for static. They mite be saying assign a static so that you can contact your router and congifure it

Router should be set to
Obtain IP address

Router is set up as DHCP server and obtain IP address
LAN pc is receive IP automatically.
