Hello,
I have just bought a new NIC card for my computer. I have bought the SMC 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Adapter (SMC1244TX) and it seems that windows installs a REALTEK driver for it. It appears to work on a Local Area Network. The problem that I am having is that it is connected to a cable connection and recieves a DHCP Ip. I can see my local intranet, but it will not grab the IP from the Cable providers DHCP server.

I was curious why this is causing this problem. Yet if I install another purchased card (D-link 528) I can obtain a IP no problem .. Can anyone help me please.

Thank you.

run winipcfg and check the ip address if it is 192.168.xxx.xxx than windows is automatically assigning an ip address to your nic.

to remove you'll need your windows cd. there is a ini file that enables/disables this feature...right off the bat i can't remember the filename, but it's under the admin tools or net tools folder. something like ads_off.ini....heck search for off on the cd and you'll probably find it.

If you do find the file before i get off back to you, right click and highlight install to disable the addressing scheme.
