Slow/unresponsive router

Specs: Windows Vista
I have a netgear wireless router, and the last few days it has been acting up big time - kicking me offline and/or slowing down. I have tried many many times rebooting both it and my cable modem. I usually test out at at around 10 mbps, but today it was down to less than ONE mbps! I finally took my IEEE line and hooked it directly in my laptop, and it tested out at a normal speed. I have to say that in the house lately we have added on to the laptop drawing on it with a smart phone, a Roku streaming box and Nook - is possible I need a better router? Thanks!

It's entirely possible the router is having issues or failing. Since you've tried rebooting it and the problem persists I would now recommend checking for newer firmware and if newer is available, apply it to your router.

If that fixes the issue, great. If not, you'll probably need to replace the unit.

have you already contacted your ISP to make sure, that the problem is not located at their side?
