slowness when sharing internet

I have 2 computers networked and i share internet with the host computer. However when i am sharing the internet it is regular speed on my computer but the host computer can't go anywhere at all. I know when computer's are networked the internet will be slower, especially since it's dial up, but I should at least be able to get around on the host computer's internet right?
