Hi.
I was wondering if some of you might help me with my problem. I´ve got 2 machines in LAN. They both have a 10/100 Mbit network card. They´re connected to a 10/100 switch and all cables are cat5. There´s also a Cisco router connected to the switch ( DSL ). Both machines is currently running Win XP. When i´m transferring files between the machines the speed is max 2 Mbit/s, if i´m lucky... Isn´t this a little bit slow? I can remember that i used to have up to 7 Mbit/s a couple of months ago, but i can´t remember how i got these good results... I think i used Win 2000 as OS at that point.
I´d be greatful for any suggestions :)

I have similar problems.

My XP and 98 systems are connected by
cat 5 crossover cable. And using 2
10/100 mbps card.
But the data rate seems never exceed
20 mbps.
Is that the cable is not as good, or
something else?
Who can help.

I have the same problem! I have a Win 2000 Server (Domain Controller), a Win 2000 Pro client and a Win XP client (sharing internet connection) - it doesn't matter whether I use crossover cable between two machines direct or a dual speed switch with straight through cables. If I use NetMon on the server I'm seeing 0% Network Utilization while copying / moving files across the network.

E.g. a 3Mb MP3 file will take around 7 or 8 minutes to copy!!!

I have searched high and low for help on this, but can't find a solution. Any help would be much appreciated as I am thinking I'll just have to bite the bullet and rebuild each machine in turn to resolve (aaaargh!)

Thanks in advance.

Chris

You are not alone. The following link has many more examples. I fear it is something that XP does badly.
