Slow network in LAN?

Hi.
I was wondering if some of you might help me with my problem. I´ve got 2 machines in LAN. They both have a 10/100 Mbit network card. They´re connected to a 10/100 switch and all cables are cat5. There´s also a Cisco router connected to the switch ( DSL ). Both machines is currently running Win XP. When i´m transferring files between the machines the speed is max 2 Mbit/s, if i´m lucky... Isn´t this a little bit slow? I can remember that i used to have up to 7 Mbit/s a couple of months ago, but i can´t remember how i got these good results... I think i used Win 2000 as OS at that point.
I´d be greatful for any suggestions :)

I have similar problems.

My XP and 98 systems are connected by
cat 5 crossover cable. And using 2
10/100 mbps card.
But the data rate seems never exceed
20 mbps.
Is that the cable is not as good, or
something else?
Who can help.

I have the same problem! I have a Win 2000 Server (Domain Controller), a Win 2000 Pro client and a Win XP client (sharing internet connection) - it doesn't matter whether I use crossover cable between two machines direct or a dual speed switch with straight through cables. If I use NetMon on the server I'm seeing 0% Network Utilization while copying / moving files across the network.

E.g. a 3Mb MP3 file will take around 7 or 8 minutes to copy!!!

I have searched high and low for help on this, but can't find a solution. Any help would be much appreciated as I am thinking I'll just have to bite the bullet and rebuild each machine in turn to resolve (aaaargh!)
