We've been having a problem at with our network at work lately. The network consists of about 10 computers running windows xp pro which all open and save their files from our "server" (not really a server, more like a computer with a large shared drive) the "server" is running windows 98...
The problem we've been having is that when the xp machines browse through the folders on the "server" it is very slow, maybe about 10 or 15 seconds before the folder contents are displayed. It's not a huge problem, but it definately is an annoyance for everyone in the office. I'm not sure if it's conincidence or not but these problems arose after everyone had applied the patch for the msblast worm.
Can anyone help? Any suggestions at all would be great, thanks alot.

Make sure that all patches are installed on the 98 and XP machines. It could also be a resource problem with the 98 machine. Have you made any changes to it recently? You may also want to consider more RAM. If you haven't rebooted the 98 machine lately, try that. Good luck.

All computers are up to date with the latest patches, that is something we made sure we did after the whole msblast scare. I haven't made any changes to the 98 machine, we are very wary before changing anything with this machine.
The only thing i've been able to find about this through my hours of google searching is a suggestion to delete a registry key (which we tried with minimal success). It said something about windows xp searching for scheduled tasks on the 98 machine, and deleting the key fixed this problem.Looks like it's back to google for me.
