Here's the deal. I'm sharing an internet connection for two computers using a linksys wireless router. One computer is direct wired and the other uses the wireless. When only one computer is connected to the router everything runs fine. As soon as both computers are connected the connection slows down considerably. In fact, it's almost as if I'm constantly being disconnected. When I try to load web pages I have to "stop" and "refresh" several times until it goes through. My downloads will download at a couple hundred KB/s, then drop down to 0 kb/s. If the file I'm downloading isn't capable of resuming the download will be cancelled. If it does have a resume feature it would download faster on dial-up.
Anyone got the wits to tackle this one?

Some Linksys routers (wrt54g and its variants) can't handle P2P programs, so if you're downloading BitTorrents or swapping songs, that would be your problem.
I had to download HyperWRT to get my router to play nice.

Have you done the basics;
up on all of the service packs
scan for spyware/malware with updated definations.
scan for virus's with updated definations
run chkdsk r on the drive
run defragAll it takes is spyware running on the computers doing their thing to slow your whole network down.
Ping between pcs. Note the average time. Do a file xfer between them with ping running. Note the time.
Next thing to try would be to have two machines on the internet and on one of the them open the routers web management interface. Look at the wan stats. If you see dropped wan connections you need to confirm your router settings are correct then contact the ISP's tech support.
With the internet connected on both ping between them. what is the difference in time?
Are you ready for where Microsoft wants you to go today?
