Hey all, this problem has been bugging me for ages and I wanna get it fixed (since my effort was invein).
3 computers on my network; 2 are connected to a hub (to avoid my cable going across the house landing), then the hub is connected to the Router. The family computer, the PC with the slow Ethernet connects directly to the router, unlike mine and my brothers.
Me and my brother can pass information fast, the speed you expect from 100Mbps, but if either one of us passes a file to the Family computer... it's literally about 10kbps ¬_¬ I tried changing the network card with a brand new one (knowing this happened to my run down NIC once), yet to no avail...
Any ideas? I have pinged the family machine btw, 40 out of 40 reached the computer, all within 4 milliseconds.

Does it work the other way? I.E.: passing a file from family computer to yours is slow??
Could be the hub.
A hub is meant to transfer data between a small group of computers. There is no means to direct the data, the computer wishing to send waits for a gap and starts sending data to the receiving computer. All the computers receive the data, but only the computer meant to receive it responds. As you can see, this creates a lot of traffic, and lots of collisions of data. When data collides, it must be resent from the transmitting computer.

Check the Link type and speed of the NIC's i.e., 10/100 half duplex, 10/100 full duplex, or auto. They need to be set to the same setting. I normally set mine to 100 full duplex, however most hubs, especially older ones, have a problem with that setting; a switch would be much better.

Check your nic setting on the slow pc , most home routers know only auto as the setting , make sure the nic is set as auto also . do not hardcode to 100/full , this will give you a speed/duplex mismatch . The only valid harcoded nic settings would be 100/half .

if I read your post right Ninja_Kirby you don't have any problems with the pcs connected to the hub. Only the one connected to the router.
If you switch it with one on those on the hub is it faster?
I see a couple of possiblities here. One is the cable and one is the pc. Concering the pc it could be software/OS or it can be something as simple as a slow hard drive
