My internet is much slower than all my friends who use the same ISP. I think it has something do do with my d-link router. I don't know how much I can really say, but I'll try. My router is wired, and split to two computers, is it possible that cable splitters could affect your overall transfer speed? I have a few in my house, but not more than my friends, on the same ISP with a linksus router. I updated my firmware, and that didn't help, I'm lucky to download around 80 kb/s and my friends get 200kb/s on average. I would appreciate any help you can offer, thank you in advance.

ok, big thing about cable internet. mainly, your internet speed is affected by your neighborhood. yeah, its true. if you have multiple users who have the same ISP as you do, (remember im talking about cable internet here, DSL, dialup, etc. is not affected by this) may have to share the entire internet connection that is supplied in your neighborhood. This means that your cable ISP could limit your bandwidth. Im not saying this is true, but thats what ive heard from many people. The more peepz on, the slower connections can get. You also might want to try scanning for spyware or viruses, they can affect performance also. Other things could also affect speed, try tweaking your TCP/IP settings. I use a program called TCP Optimizer. You also might want to try contacting your cable ISP about what your 'official' download and upload rate is, to make sure you arent paying for a slower connection than what you expected. Also, I am also using a Linksys router in my home, so Ive never experienced anything with a D-Link router as you have, so I have no idea if your router has anything to do with internet performance.

Wouldn't my friends experience the same issue as me though? They only live one block away from my house. Same ISP and everything

After unhooking my computer from my router and using only my modem, I am not 100% positive that my slow connection is my router's fault. I get the same speeds my friends do when i unhook it from the router. Does anyone know of a way to configue it so it runs faster? It's a d-linnk router, model DI-704P

Check to see if there is a firmware update and install if there is.

There's a D-Link support forum here:
