I have 2 pc's connected with a network cable of about 45 feet long. The speed is slow. 10 Mbps instead of the regular 100Mbps. If I set the speed to 100Mbps the connection doesn't work. How can I increase the speed between these two computers?

Are both NICs configured for for 100 Mbps. However, I wouldnt worry about it. With just two computers connected together, you are going to be lucky to use all 10Mbps let alone 100Mps.
10/100 Mbps is a measurment of bandwidth, not speed. There is a sutble difference.

Stuart, it's interesting what you say:
> measurment of bandwidth, not speed.
> There is a sutble difference. Are you saying two PCs directly connected to each other can't use most of the 100Mbps bandwidth? In other words, 'saturate' it.
When I copy a large file between two PCs it seemed to go much faster after I upgraded to 100Mbps.As for Lodi's problem - if a really old network cable is being used it may not support 100Mbps but if it's at least CAT5 it should be fine, right?

If both cards are set to AUTO and support 100Mbps and it drops to 10Mbps, then at 45 feet, you can assume the cable is not a Cat5 cable or that it is bad, has a bad connector, a large coil, or runs along side a strong source of electrical interference.
If it is a clean run of Cat5 cable, then the connectors may be bad (or the cards). As this sounds like a direct connect, then it is a custom made crossover cable.
