I need to install some software on a customer's PC. They have a simple peer-peer setup with a router connecting them to the internet.
Due to the way the data for the software has to be pathed I shared a local folder on one PC then mapped the same drive letter to it on 2 machines.
If I try to install the software directly into the local folder from the PC it is shared on it installs fine, however if I try to use the mapped drive letter (which is effectively pointing to exactly the same local folder) the setup takes hours to complete and everything else slows to a snail's pace. I didn't setup their network but I need to get this software running on it.

Can anyone give me any pointers?

Is this networkable software? A number of standalone products won't work due to single user mode on a network.

Can you ping between the pcs just fine?

What is "everything" that slows down? On all three?

Windows firewall configured to trust [not block] the local subnet or the other two hosts on the network?

Imagine the power if you knew how to internet search
