Comment:

I have three new Dell machines running XP Pro
They are all connected to Wireless Adapters
I have a WAP connected to a ADSL Modem/Router

They are all set up with TCP/IP and IPX/SPX.

The Internet is running very well on all machines.

Signal strength is very good to excellent and all points are within 10 metres of each other.

All machines can be seen on Network Neighbourhood and all shared files and folders are accessible.

I have organised all the computers into a workgroup.

Initially speed of opening/closing files/folders was exceptionally slow. This improved by turning off file sharing under TCP/IP.

Now, for example, opening closing files under Word on another machine takes about 5 seconds. Opening folders results in a similar delay.

I am about to smash the machines into little pieces and therefore need help!

Thanks.

File sharing is disabled over TCP/IP

If you are not sharing files in Windows XP over TCP/IP, what protocol (suite, technically) are you using to share the files with?

IPX/SPX?

At least, when you go into Network settings click Advanced settings on the menu the "Adapters and Binding" Tab shows "File and Print Sharing for Microsoft Networks" Clicked on with "NW Link IPX/SPX NetBios Transport Protocol" clicked on and "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" clicked OFF.

Cheers
