Hello folks,
I just have Netgear router and a modem for ADSL connection.
What I am wondering is about port forwarding!!
I am going through the router configuration.
Once I reached port forwarding option I got lost.
I want to know what exactly port forwarding is and when do I need?
Went through google before and found its used when having webserver at place.
Can someone please elaborate in simple terms for me?

As Google suggested you only need port forwarding when you running some kind of server like a web server, FTP server or a game server. Unless you have one of these things, you don't need to bother with anything to do with port forwarding.
The reason is that when the router receives a request for a web page it has to be told what to do with it. There may be half a dozen computers connected to the router and it needs to know which one to forward the request to. Port forwarding does that.
When a user browsing the Internet requests a web page from a remote site the router knows which computer to send the page to because it keeps a record of which computer made the request.
