Sharing XP files

Specs: Windows Vista/XP
my windows vista ultimate sp1 machine can access the shared folders on my windows xp pro sp3 machine. but once i change the access permissions it does not allow me to see the files. This happens when i remove the users 'anonymous logon" and "guest"/"guests" from the sharing permissions and when i change the read write permissions to limit usage to just the local users and the screen name for the remote login. I have tried different combinations of the user names "anonymous logon", "guest", and others i have made with and with out passwords in the file sharing permissions and on the folder access permissions and i have run out of ideas to make this work.
I need to know how can i have multiple logins with passwords for the shared folder.

Thanks in advance.

You would start by understanding the differences between peer to peer and client/server networking.

You are trying to do client server in a peer to peer environment. You also are trying to apply local access like you would network access.

Have a look on this share file with user/group permission in XP pro article, see whether can help.
