Sharing T-Mobile GC89 Air Card

April 3, 2009 at 07:13:50
Specs: Windows XP
I plan to use my T-Mobile Total Internet access modem (Sony Ericsson GC89 - GPRS/EDGE and Wi-Fi enabled) on my DELL D-600 laptop as a central access point. I also would like to share this internet connection with a wireless network at home. I already have a D-Link wireless router. How do I configure the laptop to do this?

You want to share one wireless network with another?

I suspect you're hoping to combine them and then have the aggregate bandwidth to use........is this correct?

If that is what you're asking, sorry, but you can't do that.

Basically I would like ot have the laptop connect to the air card (WAN) and then use an Ethernet cable to connect to the WAN input of the wireless router. From there I 'd like to connect a few laptops and desktops. All of them should be able to share this aircard as one WAN connection.

That won't work. What you'll have to do is connect the laptop to a LAN port. The WAN port is only for external connections like from a highspeed modem (be it cable or xDSL).

I think that on your laptop you will have to enable ICS to get this to work though. I've never tried to do anything like what you're attempting so I can't be 100% certain if it can even be done or not with ICS. If you need more info on ICS, google it or research it in the windows help files.
