Sharing & Security not working

September 8, 2010 at 06:16:28
Specs: Windows XP
Two computers - both Win XP - one computer, when asked to share, goes through the motions of setting permissions then finishes and no symbol telling me it's now sharing.
Am I being really dumb or is this an XP problem?

XP Home or Professional?

How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

You can only enable file sharing without authentication in XP home, take a look on this simple file sharing article to get more info.

If you have XP Pro, then you can share file with user/group permission.

Hope this helps.

go to local area connection properties [network properties] and check to see if File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks is installed and the box is checked to enable it.

Hi Picohat - and Wanderer - Yes, File and printer sharing is enabled onboth computers.

Funny thing is I had my network running perfectly (I've just moved office) and now the record computer won't play!
