Comment:

hello,
we now have a router between 2 parts of our domain.
this domain has Win2K servers with AD.
the connection between the 2 parts is made with a tunnel across internet.
exchange is working, pc-clients can logon properly, etc. etc.
in other words IP is working correctly in general.
name resolution is also available.

it is however not possible for Win95/98 clients to create a share to a folder.
Win2K and WinXP clients can do this correctly, so the settings of names and access rights is correct.

could somebody explain, what has to be changed on the settings of our ZyWall 100 firewall/router ?

thanks in advance
your help is highly appreciated
best regards
Fred

Have you installed the AD client software on the 9x machines? If not, you will likely have to.

Make sure NetBIOS packets are getting forwarded by the router. These are Ports 135-129 I believe.
Also make sure the workgroup name on the Win9x PC's is the same as the Domain name (a known Win9x bug).
If the above do not work, you may need a WINS server on both sides of the router.

thanks for yr reaction.
ports 137,138 and 139 are open, poroven by the fact that Win2K and WinXP can connect to the shares properly.
there is WINS and DNS on both sides and it is replicating properly.
I will check the workgroup name
thnks for this tip
Fred
