Hi,

I currently have one ethernet cable in this room which connects me to the internet through the router I have set up.

I have 2 computer I work on, and a wireless access point (apple airport express) I would like to get them all connected to the internet through the one cable.

I was looking at switches, and this was the cheapest one that looked good - http://www1.linksys.com/products/product.asp?prid=149&grid=

I was just wondering if I will simply be able to plug the ethernet cable in one port and have 3 others plugged in, two going to the computers and one going into the wireless access point.

Will this be possible using this switch?

Thanks in advance.

You'd have to contact your ISP. They may or may not allow more than one computer. If so they may not even provide details on how to connect.

A common way to connect is to have the soho router contain the logon name and password for the ISP PPoE. Then set up the soho router to provide dhcp and dns to each of the computers. Use the router's lan IP as the computers dns and gateway address.

Be sure to configure the soho router to provide some level of firewall and spi filtering. Block all ports that are not used. Basically most people can block all except tcp 80. Disable UPnP unless you have applications that must have it enabled. UPnP can open ports at the applications demand, which is both good and bad.

I have my router configured, I just only have one wire coming from it in this room.

I know I can have multiple computers on my network as I often have them connected wirelessly and I have at least 2 computers connected via a wire at any one time.

This should allow me to use the switch as I want, right?

Forgot to say, they are connected through seperate wires from seperate ports on the router.

I'm pretty sure I use the router's lan IP as the computers dns and gateway address.
