OK this may sound quite complicated but logic says this HAS to work somehow. Basically I am trying to take my Playstion 2 online. OK. The family computer is on the other end of the house. It has a external DSL modem. In the room with the PS2, I have a laptop. Now this laptop is enabled with wireless internet. Back out by the other computer where the modem actually is, I have a wireless router. The connection ends up going like this: The phone line is in the wall. It goes to the external modem. Then, an ethernet line goes from there to the wireless router. Then, part of the signal is sent out wirelessly to my laptop. The rest goes into the PC from that router. Now, my laptop also has an ethernet port on the back. I ran a crossover cable from the port in the back of the laptop into the network adaptor on the PS2. Crazy huh? The problem seems to be, the laptop is thinking that I'm trying to use the ethernet port in the back of the computer to connect to the internet... when it is actually the opposite, I'm trying to make the internet go through there into the PS2! I went to Network COnnection > Local Area Connection > Properties and tryed to put a checkmark next to "Share this internet connection". But it told me it couldn't because it said the host server must use 192.168.0.1. I have no idea what it is talking about, but I do know if I type that address in Internet Explorer, it takes me to the configuration for the wireless router. So I guess the router uses that somehow. So how would I get this to work?
I have not used ICS, but it sounds as if Windows wants to use 192.168.0.1 as the gateway address for sharing internet access with the other device (PS2). You should be able to change the "network" that your router uses to something else to prevent the conflict. Just change the 3rd number to anything from 1 to 255 in the router configuration.
