Alright I'm just trying to send files from one computer to the other via Cat 5E Crossover cable. Now I got the network connections set up on both computers. I can access the internet through both computers, but can't access files even though I have folders on one computer set for sharing. I try to access this computer *the one with internet access* through the other one by going to run and typing \\(name of this computer) and it tells me I don't have permission and should check with the administrator and all that crap.

sais the same when I try with both computers. On this computer I can at least see the "view workgroup computers" list that shows this one and the other but wont let me open the other computers file. but on my other one it wont even show that file.

This all may sound confusing but I just want to be able to share files through crossover both useing XP Pro O/S.

You have to give the correct permissions for accessing the folder to the user that you are signed on as. Right click the folder, click sharing, share the folder and then click on and assign permissions.

I already did that to my Main C drive and the certain folder I wish to use for sharing...but when I click on view workgroup computers on my client computer it just freezes for a little but then comes up saying I dont' have permission path not found. But on my Host computer it shows the workgroup computers and my CLient computer on there but when I double click the Client computer it freezes up and sais I don't have permission or path name not found blah blah crap it gives me for the client-To-Host try...
WHY don't they have permission to connect to each other?! my network is called mshome...Do I have to *add new network place, To the client computer as well?

Try going into Network Places and searching for computers and put in the name of the host computer. If you find your host computer when you click on it, it should prompt for a user name and password. With regards to permissions and adding yourself as a user, try creating a new user account for yourself on the host computer. Then give that new user permission to access your shares. Also try going into local policy and give all users administrator privledges.

I agree with Toe Cheese's advice.
Incidentally, sometimes having the same Admin username and password can help; but Window's *should* at least prompt you to enter your logon info when you try to connect.

Assuming you are using Internet Connection sharing, try running \\192.168.0.1 (which should be the IP address of the host computer).

Also be sure to disable able any firewalls--or maybe just allow port 139 (I think) through--that might be blocking the ethernet adapters.

I can connect to the internet through my host but can't do anything else....why? might be due to this harddrive error I had a few days ago I just fixed...took awial.

How are your PC's connected? It sounds like you don't have communication between your two PC's. You have to first correct that problem. Check and recheck you IP settings. IP addresses have to be on the same network and have to have the same subnet mask.
