i am currently ripping all of my music to my new 640 external hard drive in order to share it over my home network (laptop/ps3). every time I get to the point where I can name the drive and click ok, I get the following message: "An error occurred while trying to share My Book (F). The server service is not started. The shared resource was not created at this time." What is that all about????

Check the following: Enable file sharing. Share the drive. Put all PCs in the same workgroup.
If the external drive is on the XP box, go to the laptop, click start, run, type \\IP_of the XP box and press enter. Ex: \\192.1681.100 Explorer should open with the drive.
If all that works, then map the drive to the laptop and create a shortcut.

i'm using network magic to connect all of my different computers etc. NW considered the drive a folder and not a device, so i went in and "shared" a new folder.
I appreciate your responses. I'm sure that your solutions would have worked, i'm just glad i didn't have to use them, b/c i'm still a little lost with your direction. once again...THANKS.
