I have read many items in this forum on this subject and been to suggested websites. I have learned so much I feel reasonably sure I can accomplish this task. I’m just confused on a couple of points.
My boss called in a consultant (now out of business) to update our network from a peer-to-peer network to a server-based LAN. He installed a switch (AOpen AOW-216) among other things. Our network uses NT Server 4.0. There are eight clients using Win98SE with a switch in between. Four of the users have dial-up internet access. Everything works great.
Now my question: We are having DSL installed which these four users will need to access/share. I need to know if the switch has to say it is compatible with DSL (because the paperwork does not specify) or are they all compatible? Should I connect to the server or to the switch with a crossover cable (any maximum length on this? the switch is not near the jack).
Thanx to all who make this site such an informative resource!!

You are halfway there now ! Just toss a secound NIC in the NT Machine Hook one to the DSL modem and the other to the switch just like it is now.. Set up the NAT feture in NT 4.0 and she will fly ..

You may have to run a crossover cable from the DSL modem to the switch though. UNless it has some uplink port. I just not familiar with that type of switch.
