read your post in win98
the more i read it the more i think thats your problem
i even checked mine and hooked it up like you have it and i can share
but no internet
try it and let me know....

I'm using a cable modem and have two desktops, one laptop and my cable modem all hooked to a hub and all are working fine for net browsing and game play. All three are using WIN98SE. It could be your cable provider causing your grief. When we started here, COX CABLE would allow up to 8 pc's to be hooked up, each having it's own IP and you would get 512/128 total bandwidth on my plan. Now they have change their plan structure so if you have only 1 IP at your house you see speeds of 1300/128. In doing this new program my cable company has changed the way IP's are assigned and now one has to call them to have the NIC card recognized by their system, in effect to "turn-on" each IP address or it will not work with the cable modem. Call and talk to them and see if this is the case where you are. Sorry about the length of my reply, hope this helps. It's frustrating to have two machines sitting there and not able to play nicely with others.
