Sharing a printer on XP

Hewlett-packard Photosmart 7760

I am sharing my HP Photosmart 7760 on my Windows XP Pro. I am trying to get the printer added on my Sony Vaio running Windows Vista Home.

The first thing I tried to do was browse the network and found the printer under the XP computer. I right clicked on it and selected to Connect... then it said I had the incorrect drivers.

I saw many people were having a similar problem so I did what many others did and created a port "\\XPcomp\printer". But when I did this I just get an Access Denied message.

Both computers are in the same workgroup and printer sharing is obviously enabled in both. I have also tried disabling both firewalls. I am running out of ideas!

Thanks for your help!

download and install the vista drivers for the HP Photosmart 7760. You can let it install to defaults usb or lpt port. Then going into Ports you create a port \\wkstname\printersharename and tie the printer to this port.

You may need to share the printer first.
