I am a newbie and can't find words to describe my problem. I have two houses in a locality, with 3 pcs, 1 in one house and two in the other. Currently both houses have an internet connecion by a local provider. All the pcs on that lan are obviously connected to each other and can be accessed.
Since both houses are on the same LAN, couldn't it be possible to just have one subscription at one house and then share this internet with the other house only and not with the general public on the LAN.
The ips of the pcs are
1. 10.10.141.212
2. 10.10.141.73/192.168.0.1
3. 192.168.0.2

2 and 3 are in one house. The houses are far apart so direct sharing isn't possible. Is there a way, with or wthout the aid of additional software.
This will help me save some money every month.

Thanks in advance

Kabil

If you have two different homes that are separeted by any kind of distance, then no, you cannot share your internet connection at one of the homes with the other home. If the two house were right next to each other, then yes you could share the internet connection at one of the homes with the other home, either via wire runs or with a wireless access point. From looking at your scheme of addresses, seems like you have some funky stuff going on that you might want to correct.

Darn FBI says it might be against the law but you should read your agreement very carefully before you decide.

I don't understand the lan part of the connection deal. How is that? Wireless or some wire between the homes.

I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you goober.

PC2 is clearly dual homed on both networks from those addresses.

Technically kabil those houses are NOT on the same lan.

You have two options both of which don't include stopping one of the houses internet access. You buy two vpn capable router and create a vpn between the two homes or buy software that will do similar [not as seemless or as good]. Products like logmein, hamachi and gotomypc should work for you.

Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Suggest they internet search and they learn a skill for a lifetime.

I think i should make myself more clear.

1. PC 1 LAN Card connected to net directly with a LAN wire the isp has provided

2. PC 2 LAN cards.
|___1. connects to net directly via a lan wire the isp has provided
|___ 2. Connected to a 8 port switch through which my 3rd pc and sometimes a Laptop is connected
3. 3rd pc connected to the switch shares 2nd pcs internet connection.

I myself did the ics between 2 and 3 and connection to pc 3 is not a problem for me.

What i am interested is in the sharing of internet between the pcs 1 and 2 which are on the same lan.

Here are their configurations
Static IP 10.10.141.212
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.10.141.1

Static IP 10.10.141.73
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 10.10.141.1

They are both on the same workgroup and i have shared the printer on one of them for use on the other which works perfectly fine.
I can change the ips last 3 numbers to anything and still connect to the workgroup and to the other pc. however if i give them blank ips they do not connect to each other which i think is obvious

My Internet connection however does not need the ips to be configured in any specific way(they connect even if ips are blank). It is a ppoe dialup connection. I can access the LAN even when I am not connected to the net and share files with the other users with software like ipmsg and radmin(which i use to do certain tasks from my home pc no.1 to access pc no 2 and help my sister).

So the structure of the LAN is
10.10.141.1(gateway)
|___10.10.141.2
|___10.10.141.3
|___10.10.141.4
|___10.10.141.5
.
.
.
.
|___10.10.141.73
.
.
.
.
|___10.10.141.212

and so on out of which .212 and .73 are my pcs.

Now my question is whether i can share the internet connection by any means(say pc 1 connects to the internet via the isps dialup over ppoe and pc2 which is also connected to the isp via the lan wire and hennce to pc 1 via lan connect to the net using some software like wingate or anything else. Although i do not want anybody else on the LAN say .213 or .83 making use of this connection) since i can share files and printers between them

I know i hv written in a very jumbled up way...but hope u understand
