ok, I have cablevision on the XP PC thru USB. but, the other PC using ME windows was connected using ethernet cord. it was set up by a friend who as since passed. it worked for months and it just stopped working. now only 1 pc can be on at a time & you must unplug the modem each time if we change PC we want to work on. help, pls. excuse my spelling and wording I know not what I do! lol

Is that a surfboard modem? They act strange sometimes. First shut the modem & both PCs. Connect both PCs, boot the modem, wait for all the lights, then boot both PCs.
Also, make sure that the correct modem drivers are installed on the PCs.
If none of that works, buy a router.
