Comment:

I have 2 Win XP computers, a laptop and a desktop, connected with the router and share the internet. The desktop has 2 hard disk C and D.

I set up them the same workgroup. Each of them has the account but I do not set password for it.

My questions:

How do I configure the desktop so that the laptop can view files on C but not files on D ?

How do I access to C drive from laptop?

Any suggestion would appreciate.

TC./

You set up the C drive as a shared drive. Open Windows Explorere. Right click on drive C: and select sharing and take it from there.

You cannot set a share password on XP. Security is provided by your logon. Totaly different than windows 98.

Do the same on the laptop as you did on the desktop.

on the laptop, right-click the task bar (at the bottom), and click on properties

Click on "start menu", "customize", "advanced"

Scroll down, and put a checkmark beside "my network places"

Click "Ok"

now click start->"my network places"

Click "entire network", "microsoft windows network"

Click on the workgroup name, click on the desktop computer, then click on the C:

Note: It's not a good idea to share the root of a drive...at least make a folder and share that instead.

And yes, I believe windows requires you to set up passwords for authentication. (Username and password has to be the same on both computers).
