I have two PC's, one of which is connected to broadband. i have a cable modem, connected to a router that has the ability to split a connection four times. one connection is used for a computer, another for xbox live, the other two free. im interested in networking my two computers to share files between them (and also to share an internet connection), so does anyone know what is involved in doing this? i need an ethernet card for the other computer? thanks for the help, im a newb to computers

You will need a NIC in both computers. To share the internet connection all you will have to do is configure your network settings the same way as the computer you already have on the internet. The only thing that would change is your IP address if you're not using a DHCP server on the router. You can plug your second computer into one of the open ports on the router. If you have everything configured properly, you should be on the internet. To share files, you will have to enable file and printer sharing [in Control Panel -> Network], and then share the drive(s)you want to share [Right Click on drive/folder -> Properties -> Sharing Tab].
