Hi -

I recently bought a Netgear MR814 v3 along with a few Netgeat adaptors MA111 V2. In the manual it says that I need to plug my modem into the router with a RJ11 ( phone socket) on one end and a RJ45 (ethernet on the other) and then plug the router into the computer through the ethernet cable.

I dont have a cable to connect the modem to the router so I have just pluged it into my PC.

I have tried to share the internet connection but I get errors such as 799 and 765 saying there is an IP conflict.

So far i have the router and an adaptor pluged into my PC and an adaptor in the other pc. All i want to do is share the internet connection wirelessly

any ideas

you see the router has DHCP service or function that mean it will assain ip to this and other pc connected to it but if you connect the modem to the pc directly and share the connect with windows xp option (ICS)than you nic card ip will change to 192.168.x.x which might conflic with the router so i suggest you buy a cable to connect the modem and router prople like the manual tell you

thank you

The normal configuration is this:

The DSL/Cable modem are connected to the WAN port on the Netgear router with a RJ45 cable since the DSL/Cable modem has that and so does the Router.

Basically the Router acts as a little computer--that's how it appears to the DSL/Cable modem. It translates the public IP address you get from your ISP to a local network and gives addresses to your local computers, wirelessly or wired.

It sounds to me like you are trying to share a dialup connection???
