Setup WRT54GL wirelessly (no Home Computer)

Specs: Windows Vista
Ok guys. I have a linksys router(WRT54GL), an Acer Extensa 5420 with Windows Vista, and a Sprint Mobile AirCard(598U by Sierra Wireless). What I am trying to accomplish is to set up my router without a desktop(home) computer. Whenever I try to set up my router it searches for a home computer but obviously doesnt find one. I searched online for answers online with not much luck. The device I truly am looking to have wi-fi is for my brother's and my own Ipod Touch 3rd gen 34GB. I have also set up an ad-hoc but my ipod is not compatible with adhocs. This is why I need my router set up. Step-by-Step instruction would be greatly appreciated. Thank You in Advance and just for taking a look at this!

I'm assuming it's a wireless router you have, otherwise the foregoing won't make much sense.

When you only have one PC or laptop and you want to set up a wireless connection on it, first disable wireless on the laptop, connect the laptop to the router with an ethernet cable and reboot (when you change from wireless to ethernet & vice-versa on a PC/laptop, you have to reboot to allow Windows to recognise the change at startup).

When Windows is back, Log in to the router's configuration web-address with a web browser by typing

Set up wireless security password and write it down. Also make a note of your routers ID Name (SSID).

Close web-browser.

Now disconnect ethernet, turn on wireless on laptop and reboot again.

Right-click network icon in system tray and choose "Connect to a network"

Double click the ID Name (SSID) of your router and enter the password. Click 'Connect'.
