I was using BulletProof FTP server on my XP machine, but I recently acquired a dedicated server which I want to use to host my FTP server using Windows 2003. Since I'll be using IIS 6 for my webhosting, I figured I'd try and set my FTP Server up on it as well...but I'm having some trouble.
How I had my FTP server set up using Bulletproof FTP Server was when you connected to my IP, you were prompted for a username/password. Based on the username/password you supplied, you were taken to different directories and had different permissions (I only use 2 ftp accounts, Me, which has access to my whole pc, and Everyone, which is what everyone else logs in using so they only see specific folders/files). I want a similar setup using IIS 6 if possible. Also, I don't allow anonymous logins.
My problem is I can't figure out how to have more than one username/password configuration. Do I have to create separate windows users (which I really don't want to do)? Bulletproof just created an .ini file which held all the usernames/passwords and their permissions.
I've been reading up on it (on microsoft.com and the top google search results), and out of the 3 FTP server types offered (Do no isolate users, Isolate users, and Isolate users using Active Directory), it sounds like what I want is Isolate users using Active Directory, but I'm not certain. Also, this involves setting up and configuring Active Directory which I've never done before and would prefer not too...unless of course it's the only way to set up the type of server I want.
Any help would be appreciated. And any links to tutorials on how to do this would be great.
Thanks!
