First off, I'm an IT guy, but I have had no experience maintaining or setting up a "building to building" wireless connection.

I've been given a project that I don't know where to start. I need to set up a wireless connection between building A and building B which are about 1/4 mile apart. This is to share building A's internet connection, as well as network shares.

There is one possible issue that I see. Line of sight isn't too great because of 1 large tree next to building A. I don't know if this will effect anything or not, but if it does, I have a 3rd point that I can use to setup wireless equipment if needed.

Building A: Has internet connection, network shares, Ethernet switch, need to share internet & network shares with building B.

Building B: Couple of computers that need to see Building A network & use Building A internet connection.

There is some equipment that I have on hand. It seems to be a little outdated, but I'll use it if I can.

I have:

3 antennas

3 Buffalo AirStation Pro 11mbps Wireless Bridge Access Points (WLA-AWCG)

1 Buffalo AirStation Pro Wireless Intelligent Access Point (WLM-L11G)

Thanks in advance for any help I can get! If I need to buy new equipment for this, then it can probably be done. The company would like for me to use what I have already though.

maybe some ideas here:

I have no idea of the effective range of the equipment you have but 1/4 mile is quite a distance and I suspect you will need to use external mounted, powered high gain equipment.

I used to have a signature but it disappeared and I just couldn't be bothered writing another so please feel free to ingore this.

Thanks Richard, I appreciate your help!

There has been a little change though. After going over there to look at things for myself, I realized there's a metal building that's going to be right in the line of site. I'm going to need to setup an antenna there as well.

From what little I know, there needs to be a wireless bridge AP on each end, but what will I need to setup at the building in the middle?

How about a VPN and forget about wireless? Of course, you would need a second internet connection. The advatage is it could be done in one day and it's more secure then wireless.

I've mentioned that... it'd sure be a lot easier on me! And it looks like that's what we're going to do. It be a lot cheaper in up front costs...
