I just bought a netgear wireless g router (model: wgr614v7). the installation cd will not run, probably due to my cd-rom drive not reading it. Is there anyway I can set up/install the router & network without using the installation cd? Thanks.

I did some research and found that on the CD, there isn't much you need. This is what it has:

Resource CD, including:
— This guide.
— The Installation Guide.
— Application Notes and other helpful information.

Nothing you can't get here:
ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/wgr614v7_ref_manual_20apr06.pdf

There shouldn't be any setup involved for the average user. Is there any specific you had in mind?

Abit AN8
AMD64 X2 4200 @2.5Ghz
Corsair 3Gig Dual-Channel 2x512 2x1gig
MSI Radeon x800 PCI-E
Seagate 160Gig SATA
Seagate 320Gig SATA
External 1T

my question is this...set up was a breeze as far as actually just getting a connecton that was strong, BUT, when i restarted the computer (following the exact manual), i opened up IE not to get the netgear set up wizard, but google, it set directly up, bypassing the set up. therefore my connection was not secured..i need to know how to set up a password because i dont want to get on there not secured.

OH, and by the way, the reason the manual says i may not be getting the wizard to open up in IE is because it said my computer may not be automatically set up to get its tcp/ip settings from the router via dhcp. whatever that means. when i set up the router, it says light #3 (or the wireless light should NOT be lit), but when i hook directly up, it is. so maybe that has something the tcp/ip through dhcp thing has something to do with it?

thanks again, i appreciate all the help.

you have to type the routers ip into the browser to reach the setup page,

like http://192.168.1.1

try username = admin
password= 1234

or whatever the routers ip is , the ip should be on the casing of the router, maybe on the back.
