Comment:

going to try to set up a vpn. have broadband (cable) coming into building, linksys router hooked to panel going to 4 rooms, w2k pro computer in one of the rooms. would like to be able to work from home. i have read the w2k will only accept one inbound connection at a time. is there reasonable hardware i should consider to be able to accept more connections or is w2kserver mandatory at that point? also, how will the w2k box acting as host know my laptop is a legit connection if my ip is assigned by dhcp wirelessly at the office? thanks for the help, i'm new at this as i'm sure you've noticed.

Basically you are going to have real problems with VPN and this setup! I havent got time to go into all the problems you are going to face but my simplest advise is to consider using an external device connected to your router as the VPN server! The best product I can think of is the 3Com Firewall. As well as providing protection for your network it also features a VPN server so is ideal for your needs (if you get the older version without the built in VPN there is a free software upgrade available fron 3com). These can be picked up from ebay cheaply if you're on a budget.
There are other stand alone VPN servers available or Firewalls with built in VPN (I use the WebRamp 700s which has the same software as the 3com!). However the 3com is the easiest I have found to configure and has good manufacturer support.
