Comment:

I recently transferred some files from one computer to the other. The computer that originally had the files has been reformatted and the same operating system was installed (WinXP Pro SP2).

Now, once i reinstalled everything, it seems to see my DLink router but i cant seem to setup the networking to transfer the files back. When i try to see workgroup (mshome) computers, i get the following error:

Mshome is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available.

Id appreciate any assistance.

Joe

Just goto run and type \\(computer name)
the computers name should be the name of the computer your tying to access. also turn off sp2 firewall or config to work with file sharing.

In a workgroup you must define User accounts and permissions on each machine. So if user Joe is transferring files from PC A to B, both pc's A and B must have an user account named Joe with the appropriate permission level. Also, you must have a way to resolve names. Is you D-Link router acting a the WINS server? Other wise, you may have to make entry in each machine's HOSTS files. All the pc's have to be on the same network--so if your router is 192.168.0.1 then pc A and pc B must have an address like 192.168.0.x (x being the pc's unique address) All this, of course, assumes that the problem is not the physical connection between your machines and the router... Let us know what happens.
