Ok I have a Compaq presario v5000 series notebook and I recently had a hard drive burn out on me. I replaced it with the regular microsoft windows xp SP2 home edition recovery disc. Everything worked out except I cannot access the internet. Wired or wireless. The setups do not work nor do the wizards. In the network connections tab there is only one connection tab and that is the local. There is suppose to be a wireless one. There is not and I cannot figure out why or how to get it back. Please help. Thank you.

You have to load the driver for the wireless.
Odds are if you go into device manager you have things with yellow exclaimation points indicating hardware was found but a driver was not.
You can get the driver from the laptop cd or download from HPs web site.

That's what i figured but i cannot access the internet from that computer so how would I get the drivers onto that computer? Would the official recovery disc of the Compaq Presario have the drivers on it or if not how would I go about getting it onto my internet less laptop?

get a usb stick and go to a friends house or internet cafe to download your drivers.
Recovery disk usually sets things back to factory defaults.
Why didn't you us it to begin with when your system crashed?

Well it's a new hard drive so there was no settings on it to begin with and I don't have the official notebook recovery disc. I only have the OS recovery disc. Thank you for helping. I will post a confirmation if it works.
