Comment:

I installed a home network primarily to allow multiple computers to share the DSL connection. I now want to share printers and files among the systems. I run the following: WinME in 3 systems, the router is a Linksys BEFSR414-port and the DSL modem is an Efficient Networks 5260 I ran the WinME networking wizard successfully on all systems but I can't do any resource sharing. Is there something else I need to do? How do I set up the domain so that the login will work? Is there a site that I should visit?

Any and all help gratefully and greatly appreciated.

1. Give your PCs individual Computer Names under Network Identifcation but the same Workgroup name.

2. On the PC(s) you want to share files or printers from, install File and Printer Sharing.

2. Open My Computer and select the resource you wish to share - it can be a file, a folder, an entire disk. Right click on it and look for a menu option called, "Share". Select that. Enable sharing and set a password.

3. Under Networking, all the other PCs on that Workgroup should be able to "see" the shared resource now, when they click on the PC's name it's attached to.

For security reasons you should assign a 9+ character password to any shared resource. No proper words, mix characters and numbers. E1x2a3m4p5l6e7. The first time your other PCs try to access the resource you'll need to input the password; after they they will autotmatically open it.

Orion,

Thanks for your response. I have done all the setup including the workgroup name and the different computer name for each PC. Only one PC is giving me a problem; the one that provides the ISP gateway. I cannot get it to set up a workgroup. The wizard appears to work correctly, but after rebooting there is no workgroup set up in Network Places. Opening the Entire Network shows zero folders. the other 2 PC's were successfully set up this way.

What am I doing wrong? Is there something I should check on the gateway PC?

Thanks
BobH

For the PC which you are using as a gateway, you will need two ethernet cards. One of them will be for the internet connection (DSL) and the other for the home network.
for the home network, give the Ip addresses to each pc between 192.168.0.1-192.168.255.255 . Now configure the internet connection for the other ethernet card. For the internet connection that you created , enable connection shariing. go to the following link
http://www.tuketu.com/dsl/xdsl.htm#Security
The one in the figure 5 can be used for you.
