Setting up an FTP server?

I want to know how to set up an ftp server. what prog to dl? and how can someone connect? i'm going to look it up on the internet now but i just want all the info before i start. i basically want to be able to let my friend upload things to movie without doing it over aim. it's soo slow. (is there something with aim that makes it slow?) that is prety much it. and i'm curious how to set one up. thanks!!

Fastream NETFile FTP/Web Server has both FTP and web server in one program. It's shareware but with no time limit - you just get no support for shareware use. You can set bandwidth limits so uploads don't wipe out your internet connection. If you've got networked PCs you can test it over the network.

If you have 2000/XP just install IIS. Add remove programs > Windows Components > Networking(?) > IIS. It'll prompt you for the Windows XP CD.

Its a webserver/FTP server, fairly simple to configure and plenty of documentation online.

Slow uploads are probably due to your ISP. Its usually 1/10th of your Download speed. (Comcast, at least)
